Depending on price, the 1st gen 1600/1700 are still worth a look. Both come with a Wraith Spire cooler that handles 3.7GHz fixed overclock very well at stock voltage. Similar in performance to a stock 2600/2700 out of the box, for a bit less money.

If you want max performance, if you want solid overclocking, consider either the B450 Gaming Pro Carbon or the X470 Gaming Plus, both of which have better power delivery

May 20, 2020UPDATE – Since filming this video, I've had my 2600X on an updated X470 platform, overclocks nicely to 4.2GHz at 1.35v on a 240mm AIO liquid cooler. Works well, but not really worth the money.

May 20, 2020Was wondering if you plan on doing a review of any of the Max versions of the MSI motherboards (Tomahawk, Mortar)? Was looking at the MS B450M Mortar Max and trying to find a good review. Thanks and keep up the great work!

May 20, 2020I want to get the Asus Rogue Strix B450-F motherboard, but the VRM thermals are not nearly as good as the MSI B450 Tomahawk. Is the Tomahawk a better motherboard?

May 20, 2020It's nice to see such detailed video about the component. I took this motherboard for a ryzen 5 3600x and i watched some videos where this motherboard compared to other brands of similar price delivers better temperatures.I don't think i will OC the cpu as it works already on high frequency with standard settings but rather the Gpu, so i guess it should be fine for my use.

May 20, 2020Hi, Would you consider a Ryzen 7 3700x a good fit for this board or will that be too much processor for this setup? Thanks in advance

May 20, 2020Hello! I love your channel!
I’d like to ask you if there are any differences between tomahawk “not max version” with bios chip update for ryzen 3000 and the tomahawk max.
I’ve read that the BIOS chip is 32 mb in the max version and 16 mb in the normal version; are there any differences between these Two sizes( With a ryzen 3000 cpu )?
Does The Normal version with ryZen 3000 support 4133 hz ram like the max or there are some differences in stability?
Does the Max version have USB 3.2 ?
Thank u so much and sorry if my english is bad

May 20, 2020Just curious would it better to go with the pro carbon version over the x470?

May 20, 2020No, don't tell them to leave out the CD. I have an admittedly old Sapphire graphics card, and after OS reinstallation the system is so slow and at 480 graphics that it's pretty much unusable. Put the Sapphire CD in and it's usable. Then I can spend 4-5 hours updating Windows and getting up to date drivers etc with a sensible system. If I have to navigate graphics vendors hopeless driver pages with a barely usable display just to get a bearable system, I'm going to blame you. I guess you think Microsoft will always provide a nearly-good-enough driver – well, they don't, they are Microsoft, remember.

May 20, 2020Thanks for the great review, as always. I'm leaning away from the asus b450 pro gaming board, mainly because there are hardly any reviews on it. Any reasons you have why i should switch to the MSI board and not the Asus would be very appreciative.

May 20, 2020Its been about a year now since I have bought my b450 Tomahawk. I absolutely love it. In the begining, this board was not intended for overclocking. However, when MSI released the bios version with OC' options (voltage offset, etc) back in march, the board matured and really came to life. Bios flashback is a life saver. Has great VRM's, great heatsinks, and really is built like a tank. I have a 2700x and its a perfect match. If anyone is thinking about getting this board, go for it, you will be happy with it. If anything ever happened to this board, I would buy another Tomahawk in a heart beat.
