The best motherboards for AMD Ryzen CPUs in 2019, from B450 to X570, covered in one place. This updated version of our guide considers the R9 3950X & R5 3600.

CORRECTION on ASRock X570 Taichi: The board has 3x M.2 slots, not 2x. Sorry for the error!
In this video, we’re only looking at motherboards we know are acceptable for AMD #Ryzen CPUs, eliminating the bottom-of-the-barrel boards to establish a baseline level of quality. If you’re trying to figure out what motherboard to use for your new AMD Ryzen system, particularly with the Ryzen 3000 series (e.g. R5 3600 or R9 3950X), this motherboard guide rounds-up what’s worth considering and talks about suitable VRMs for the newer CPUs. Note that not every board on this list should be paired with the 3950X, as it has stricter VRM requirements than the lower-end CPUs due to the increased core count. Also note that, if you’re trying to compare the differences between X470 vs. X570 boards or X570 and B450 boards, they’ll mostly boil-down to PCIe Gen4. We talk about that in this content, too.
Our goal is to help provide a list of the best motherboards for AMD’s Ryzen CPUs in 2019, particularly the newer R9 3950X and R5 3600 CPUs. We hope that this will be useful for PC builds before end of year and for sales (like #CyberMonday deals).

Best WiFi motherboard for my build? I need my PC to run through Wi-Fi, cause cable is not an option. Currently I'm looking at MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon AC.
Ryzen 3900X
2080 Super ROG Strix
No mention of any asus B450 boards? the Rog strix b450-F (and b450-E wifi version) are not bad boards. the rog strix has a back IO same as that mortar , with diag led's and 2 m.2 slots. alot of people seem to hate this board – mainly because it uses a bit more power when idle.
I have a question, I am planning to build a video editing pc and I am going with the Ryzen 3900x but in the future I will maybe upgrade to a 3950x cpu. What motherboard is the best for me?
Difficult to choose a board! We have the X570 Tomahawk coming next month. I'm wondering if I should wait for that or go with the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite or ASUS TUF Gaming X570-Plus. Any advice? Thanks.
You make the best motherboard rankings in the world. Thank you!
I was looking for buying a mobo to pair up with my x5 3600 today and ran into this gem! Completely blown away by the sheer useful content this video has, and luckily for me I can buy a MSI B450 Motar Max in my country so that's a no brainer 🙂 Thanks a ton for helping me make my choice and keep up the good work! Subscribed 😉
Would the ryzen 5 3600 be good with a tomahawk max?
I can't find an x570 board under 250 to save my life. They are all sold out till June probably due to covid. New egg had open boxes available but in between adding it to my cart and checking out they sold out 🙁 plenty of boards around the 300-500 range :/
I don't have the much budget like others do but am glad I ended with B450 Tomahawk MAX.
OC feature is not that bad.
👍
I think I saw a video from you talking about how interesting was the Ttop on x570 taichi. Now it's DCd? I'm confused!
i wanna ask. is it a waste to use high speed nvme (call it samsung 970 evo) to pcie3.0 mobo. i planned to get tomahawk max and will use 970evo. can i still maximize its performance?
Your opinions for asrock b450 steel legend & pro 4
At this level I'm a noob, but can't you clear the CMOS by just taking the battery out and putting it back in?
Is MSI paying for this video?
Sadly it seem this video is alrdy outdated almost every mobo that you show are out of stock or listed 100$ over! 🙁
But that was a really good video, good explaination, good quality, Great work as always!
msi got that B450 boards 10/10🔥😂
I want to switch to PC but more videos I see more complicated gets
So the MSI X470 Gamer plus has the extra M.2 port and 2 extra USB ports compared to the B450 on this vid. Looks like it goes for around the same price, is there a reason for this?
will i need to update the bios with these?
Why no mention of X470?
Right now the MSI B450 Tomahawk is sold out everywhere, Ebay has them at inflated prices. not cool
VRM is something Gamers dont understand , it has to do with electronics , power filtering . Its just LC filter . Its very cheap to make its handful of capacitors and inductors ,
Hence it can happen that you get the same on high end board and low end one .
Back in the day . CPUs used more power and were overclockable , and from those days it remained that if you OC you need good VRM , but modern CPUs dont OC at all .
This has to do with Core density , its just too much electronics on one place to overclock it , hence far as VRM goes it make little difference if any .
I didnt check this , i just understand electronics so , i might be wrong
I really don't understand why this channel has such few subscribers; I believe it worth 10 times more than now. Such amazing informative videos. Best of luck Gamers Nexus.
Hi Buildzoid would you today still advise the ASUS PRIME X570-P compared to the lattest or one of the lattest MSI, the Tomahawk X570 ? Kind Regards !
Good video. I still don't know what the hell to do though.
You have no idea how informative and useful your videos are. It's like the holy grail if you are a newbie looking to build a pc or upgrade parts yourself. Thank you so much man!
Is the
MSI MPG X570 Gaming Plus also a great board for 150?
Just built my first PC, pretty happy with my Aorus B450M.
how about asus prime b450-plus? For 3700x or 3600?
I have aorus b450 elite with 1600x 3.9ghz
It's fine?
Why mortar is better than tomahawk in lay man's term?
when ur 80$ b350 has troubleshooting but a 200$ x570 doesnt lmao
I have a dumb question…is there a reason for PS2 on a mobo in this era? 9:44
Has there been any new boards since this video?
I need some help guys
Should I buy the TUF X570-Plus or the AORUS ELITE?
I watched a lot of videos but I don't have a very advanced technical background to understand all the features of the board, my main aim is gaming and sometimes video editing.
I want to do some overclocking if possible on the CPU, RAM and GPU, my parts would be a Ryzen 3600x, Viper Steel DDR4 3733 C17 (8×2) and an RX 5700 XT (probably Gigabyte Gaming OC 3 fan).
Thanks to anyone that can help me figure out what the differences are 😀
I’m curious as to the reason you never mention Gigabyte’s AORUS x570 Pro WiFi model, which is the one between their Elite and Ultra models in their lineup? I’ve had mine since August, and I got a good deal on it when I bought it bundles with my CPU from MicroCenter, and for the price (which was obviously just a little bit more than the Elite).
So far I’ve been extremely happy with all the features it supports, because it has all of the improved features of the Ultra, without sacrificing much more than a single M.2 slot. So, for people like myself, that want the latest chipset features (that I’d miss out on with an x470), better networking (with Intel LAN), and better audio (allegedly). Sure, the difference in MSRP is another $50-60–but if you’re already spending over $200 on a motherboard, you probably want a bunch of high-end features and want THE BEST you can afford, so it’s really less about spending $50-60 dollars more (relatively, because the street price varies enough you can get them on sale) and it’s more about getting just a little bit more, and NOT spending another $90-100, and saving yourself $30-40 (depending on whether or not you get the Elite or Pro model with built-in WiFi).
Personally, I felt like having built-in WiFi (and more importantly BT 5.0) was a feature well worth another $10. There’s no way you could buy an expansion card that does both for that price, and you’d easily spend twice that on two separate dongles, which would use up two of your USB ports. When I built my PC, I didn’t have Ethernet running to the room that I now use for my office, and even when you overlook the hassle it was to drill through my wall and run the cable, and mount the jack plates—I still needed to buy or make a cable long enough to span the distance from my router to my PC, and I didn’t already have one that would reach. So; until I had the time (and my wife needed a wired connection for work, due to COVID-19) I was using the WiFi 6 antenna, and it had fantastic reception. Again, the BT 5.0 support is also pretty huge, because now that all modern phones have dropped the 3:5mm TRRS, BT headphones are cheap and plentiful—which makes going back and forth from using a laptop at work vs my desktop at home a zero compromise experience. It also gives me fun ideas for what I can do with that antenna, now that I have a wired connection in my office. I’m thinking that I might use it (thanks to network sharing) as an additional WiFi 6 WAP for that end of my house, which drops off a ton @ 5Ghz, and only gets mediocre 2.4Ghz signal (old houses can be a PITA!)
Thank you for this. I have no clue what im looking at when buying mobos so this video really helped
Hmmm , what about my B450 Aorus Pro and 3950x Stock?
